Had Ari's conference today...normally I'd be in a tizzy of anxiety before hand but this time I wasn't...except for maybe on the ride there. It was a good meeting with her 1:1 aide, classroom teacher and special education teacher. I got to ask a lot of questions about little things that I was wondering about and find out how she is doing. Well...here's a shocker...she's actually doing better in math than in reading...who would have guessed that? Holy Cow! She is maintaining the math curriculum pretty independently which is a shocker to me. She mostly needs some prompts here and there and of course her ever looming distraction but other than that independent. Apparently she is further behind in reading than I thought but I see her doing more for me at home than they are asking of her to do in class - so I think I'll be having a conversation with the reading specialist soon just to make sure we are on the same page. I am now thinking about her sentence writing skills and that we have no goals for this on her IEP ...I think I'll be calling them about that one too. I am always shocked when she goes against the "Williams Profile" I always figured math would be harder than reading and she'd never be able to write well....well, that's pretty much what we've always been told... but here we are a few years later and the complete opposite is true...go figure.

Thanks for sharing that, Michelle. I have Sawyer's first "transition" meeting with the town pre-school tomorrow and have been reviewing and copying articles on typical Williams issues. Hearing about Ari's progress is a good reminder that we shouldn't discount certain educational areas just because the "typical Williams kid" profile says they can't do something. Thanks!
I'm so proud of her Michelle, sounds like she is doing wonderful! Isn't it amazing how easily distracted these kiddos are??
Great news!!!!
I now take that WS profile with a grain of salt....Michaela doesn't fit in most places either!
Math is a strong point for her also, especially word problems,go figure!
Keep up the great work, Ari...and mom!
Way to go, mom and Ari!! So good for me to hear. Thanks.
So glad to hear Ari is doing well. xoxox
